This famiglia-owned and operated brick oven restaurant is more than just another brick in the wall, it’s a cornerstone of Italian cooking in Tribeca.

Il Mattone (Italian for “brick”) takes pride in using the finest building blocks, like fresh mozzarella and virgin olive oil, to create a wide variety of tasty and habit-forming dishes, from veal medallions and lobster ravioli to thin crust pizzas, fresh and piping-hot from the oven.
The consistent quality, hearty portions, powerful flavors, and affordable prices are enough to make even a veteran mason nod with approval. So, if a tiring day of work has made you hit the brick wall and you need something to satisfy a hearty appetite, know that you can always count on Il Mattone’s terrific Italian fare.

Grilled Calamari—Floured and served with a zesty marinara sauce
Il Mattone Salad—Romaine tossed with tomatoes, onions and cucumbers in a homemade creamy vinaigrette
Veal Milanese Sandwich—Breaded Veal cutlet topped with red onions, tomatoes, arugula and balsamic vinaigrette on Italian bread
Mattone Burger—Topped with fresh mozzarella, onions and mushrooms on a roll and served with fries
Grilled Chicken (Low Carb)—Marinated chicken breasts served with grilled vegetable or spinach with lemon butter garlic sauce
Il Mattone Pizza—Tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, sausage, peppers, pepperoni and onions
Penne Alla Vodka—Tomato cream sauce with prosciutto
The food is very expensive (I spent $38 for two Penne Ala Vodka) and a tiramisu), but it tastes pretty good. The delivery was also competent. The restaurant is pretty dependable. I don't know if I would regularly go here if I didn't have to order in at the office all the time, given the existence of several better Italian restaurants not too far away, but I certainly don't have anything bad to say about my experience with Il Mattone. It forms a big part of my co-workers' diets, too.

HELTHY WHOLE WHEAT PIZZA I WISH I CAN EAT ALL DAY

Over priced marginal food... Shrimp and pasta dishes were over cooked and lacked flavor.

Terrible!!! They shouldn't have an Italian Restaurant when they have no clue how to cook pasta or anything else. The quality of the food is really low. Completely tasteless.

There is nothing nice to say about this place...was there once, will never go back.

Delivery was dead slow (1.5 hour wait!), the food was cold and the ingredients did not taste fresh. very disappointing experience all around - there are much better italian places out there.

Hour and a half to get the cold food. The restaurant never picks up its phone so I had to call 10 times before somebody answered to help me find my food.

They gave me a veal milanese sandwich instead of a chicken one (and the meat eater agreed that it tasted terrible, it got thrown out) and the margherita pizza was soggy, chewy, and tasted mostly of salt. I ended up heating something from my freezer since the pizza was so bad. Not to mention that the food was pretty cold since it took longer than the 30-45 minutes to arrive, more like an hour. The receipt even said veal milanese and I got charged for it instead of the chicken, and I rechecked my order, and I definitely ordered chicken.

The food was quite good, but the pricing is a bit high for what you get.

Bruschetta and foccacia pizza was absolutely terrible. Would not eat here ever again!

Usually have a good experience, but they followed none of the instructions, forgot condiments, calamari was chewy and disgusting.

try the veal milanese sandwich, it comes with great seasoned fries. veal can be cut a little thick, so ends up tough...but tasty and you can often get lucky on the cut.

Typically very good; high quality ingredients. Once ordered a hawaiian pizza which was just soggy and watery, however the restaurant credited my account. I appreciate this service. It is nice to know that the food is great; and if there's a mistake, their service will take care of it.

The side pasta salad had a heavy garlic taste, not something everyone would enjoy. Higher price for a sandwhich you can get at a pizzeria, but the availability of that type of place is not plentiful on a Friday night. Would use again but get something of more value for the money.

I love IL Mattone...I have been ordering from them for months and always get the best chicken parm in town... There house salad is great too!! I don't understand the negative reviews...I have never been dissappointed and I am the pickiest person I know...

The food came cold, I don't know how pizza cools down this fast. The pizza came all crushed to one side of the box. The crust was rubbery. Cheese seemed and tasted fake. Delivery person is a thief. He shows up with a regular receipt saying that if I wanted my order I have to give him my card info 1.75 for a CANNED coke? Really? Don't order here, I don't even know how you manage to have the pizza fold on itself. The person who cut the slices also has no basic knowledge of using the pizza cutter and how the slices should be even.

1) Pizza was burned on the bottom; 2) apple dessert was half frozen and had napkin stuck to it; 3) sparkling bottled water was completely flat.

The food was so-so, but the pizza got completely smushed in the box and all of the cheese came off of it, which was really annoying.

I oredered Pizza and a slice of cake. The Pizza was almost cool at arrival, and it wasn't a cold day. It wasn't too cool to eat, and was still pretty delicious, given the brick oven. The slice of carrot cake was small, given the price, and just commercial cake, not moist. Overall, it was good food but poor presentation.

Pizza is very good ... I suggest meatballs as a topping. They are way overpriced though on the sandwhiches 13 for a small veal hero... eh. Also the penne al a vodka pretty good but for 15 i expect at least a salad to come with it. All in all very good and defintely consistent.

For the price I paid, the food was sub-par, which was disappointing as I love Italian. All the food had an odd taste to it.

This order did not go well. The order took 40 minutes over the estimated time to arrive. When the order arrived it was missing half the drinks, the pizza was cold, one of the soda cans was broken and spilling all over our floor and hallway. And we were missing an entire PIE! We will not be ordering from here again.

Awesome pizza. Great dishes (meatballs are superb.) I really like this place, it deserves five stars here on seamless web not four! When you're really hungry and in the mood for some Italian this place can't be beat for this area of the city.
